As we are on the topic of using social media to stay connected, let's talk about VOIP options.  Skype and oovoo comes to mind.  When travelling, you can find me standing outside coffee shops and McDonalds using their free WIFI.  :)

I first learned about oovoo from the PIDP 3240 class.  This is a web conferencing chat tool that can connect up to 12 friends at a time!
